Language is made up of words. In English, words can be classified into 8 word classes, which are called "Parts of Speech". The 8 parts of speech are nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and interjections.
- Noun - a word that names a person, thing or place
- Verb - a word that shows action or state of being
- Pronoun - a word used in place of a noun
- Adjective - a word that describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun
- Adverb - a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb and tells where, when, how, or to what extent
- Preposition - a word that shows the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word
- Conjunction - a word that connects words or groups of words
- Interjection - a word that expresses surprise of strong feelings
